Rescue Global; a UK based NGO supporting governments and local agencies around the globe in responding to natural and man-made disasters. Rescue Global works across the full disaster cycle – planning, response and recovery. As part of their focus on building resilience, they focus on multi-agency training, and research, design and development of new equipment, technology and best practices.
Last week, they participated in a multi-agency training and simulation exercise which involved an emergency crash landing, resulting in an aircraft fire, with casualties trapped on board. The event took place in support of their partners at Avon Fire and Rescue Service at Bristol Airport and brought together teams from the three UK uniformed emergency services (Police, Fire, Ambulance), as well as the Environment Agency, local authorities, Bristol Airport staff, airline staff, and the Civil Aviation Authorities.
During this exercise, Rescue Global demonstrated SiRRAN’s NET Series capability to set up a local cell phone network and share information remotely and immediately with all levels of the incident response teams - strategic, tactical and operational.
Once the fire had been put out by the Avon Fire Service teams, the Pathfinders gathered requested information about the incident, including photographs of the cockpit and “casualties”, which were then able to share with the incident command centre, to provide intelligence and enable real time decision-making.
